C3 381. SENTIMENT describes two categories – death and memory – wherein thirteen buildings are presented in a range from crematoriums and chapels to mausoleums and memorials. In the former category, the projects are seen not just as functional objects for the disposal of the dead, but instead as elaborate anthropological artefacts through which the living express their respect. Commemoration drives the latter typologies, which spring from the need to maintain the memory of tragedy or heroism.
