Renaissance painter Cosmé Tura was court artist of the Este family in fifteenth century Ferrara, Italy. Tura’s distinctive and unsettling style borrows from Netherlandish sources. His influence can be seen in work by his contemporaries in diverse media, including manuscript illumination, tapestry weaving, metallwork, and sculpture.
